Sertaconazole nitrate
Indications/Uses
Dosage/Direction for Use
1 vag supp in the evening, to be inserted deeply into the vag, preferably while lying down. Repeat w/ a 2nd vag supp 7 days after the 1st insertion if symptoms persist.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to any imidazole antimycotic. Concomitant use of contraceptive diaphragm.
Special Precautions
Discontinue use in case of local intolerance or allergic reaction. Use soaps w/ neutral or alkaline pH when washing outer genitals. Practice good personal hygiene; wear preferably cotton underclothes; avoid vag douches. Apply antifungal cream if mycosis occurs on vulval or perianal areas. Consider treatment of sexual partner. Do not interrupt treatment during menstruation. Concomitant treatment for any bacterial infection associated w/ candidiasis is advisable. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Rarely, allergic reactions & local intolerance manifestation (eg, burning sensation or exacerbation of pruritus).
Drug Interactions
May cause the sheath or diaphragm to break during vag supp insertion when used concomitantly w/ contraceptive diaphragm. Not recommended to use concomitantly w/ local spermicidal contraception; may inactivate the spermicide.
